Mama Cass is one of the founding members of The Mamas and The Papas, a successful solo singer and a female music icon . Hell yeah she was a full figured woman.
Know what else?HER PIN UP WAS THE 2ND BEST SELLING in the late 1960s. Someone WAS dreaming a little dream of her, eh?

Can you blame them? 😍😍😍

like when beyonce said “i woke up this way: flawless” she’s saying that flawless is not dependent on how she looks at a given moment; by dent of being alive, just by being authentic to herself, she’s flawless.

not “i woke up with this hair laid and makeup did and decked out clothes”. which is how everyone else apparently interpreted it.

I’ve seen some posts making this guilt trip of how the people who like to dress up as a sugar skull or the Catrina for halloween or whatever is racist and cultural appropriation.

Nah, it’s completely fine, as long as you are not totally ignorant about it or disrespectful.

Sugar skull represents the deceased, in a joyful manner. And the Catrina is just a social critic which became an icon later on for the day of the dead and Mexico.

It is not offensive to turn this into a costume or an accessory because it already is, so if you want to dress up like sugar skulls on Halloween, do so, but atleast know it’s value.

Be open minded, don’t even hate, and share this rich culture we have with the rest of humanity, chill.

This post is about that eradicating guilt trip and blaming, and turn it into self awareness

Lol okay… No.

No on so many levels

Cuz listen… majority of people dress up like this because they think it’s cute and its a halloween costume… and it isn’t. They also go to lengths to “sex” up this costume and make a mockery of my culture…

(I work at Party City, and have been an employee there for several years and I have to sell this shit to gringos so please save your breath on explaining your argument on this.)

I know it’s already a costume and an accessory… but it’s apart of my culture and apart of my people’s religion. Dia de Muertos is a sacred holiday that doesn’t just consist of dressing up like la catrina or sugar skulls… it consists of the celebration of those close to you that have passed on. This is sacred to me and I don’t appreciate white people wearing this as a halloween costume.

Just because someone knows its history, still doesn’t give them the right to dress up like this.

If you want to CELEBRATE this holiday and dress up and contribute, please do, and do it with those that allow you to come into their space and share their culture with you…

But dressing up because you think its cute for halloween…

No.

NO.

FUCK NO. UNACCEPTABLE. I DO NOT CONDONE THIS “SHARE THE CULTURE” WHITE GUILT APPEASING BULLSHIT. BYE.
